The most important question for us in the run-up to such seminars is: what exactly do we want to teach the participants?
On the subject of SAMI-X PRO, there are of course numerous topics that would be interesting and certainly instructive for the seminar participants. However, we set ourselves particular standards and a goal for every seminar, namely that the participants can take away as much helpful and lasting knowledge as possible.
First of all, we would like to mention that it is a great experience for any instructor, trainer or speaker to work with 60 highly motivated operational trainers and officers from the prison service, police and customs who are eager to learn. Thanks to the passionate commitment of Axel Hempel and Dominik Oppold, such a large, interested group came together within a very short time.
It is important to mention that we do not admit civilians to our SAMI-X PRO courses!
For authorities in particular, it is a must to develop simple solution concepts within the framework of regulations and the legal situation and for the protection of everyone involved. That is why SAMI-X PRO is a perfect system, as it includes all of this.
But back to the seminar! To start with, it was important to us to convey a basic understanding of the system and the SAMI-X Pro concepts. With ABC/D and a clear action concept, this is easy for us as trainers to explain.
After that, we started straight away with the operational techniques, the associated transitions (links) and the “Grip 2 Grip Drills.” To test these, practical scenarios – alone or teaming up with 2 or 3 people – were then on the program.
An important part of the training is also accepting mistakes in practice, working with them and finding new solutions on the basis of the action concepts learned. This worked perfectly, and later it also made it possible to gain control over a person in sitting and lying positions.
With an excerpt from the GAP program, the “Ground Action Plan,” the participants now had the opportunity to train for these special situations in a team as well.
A short excursion into the use of the expandable baton, to experience the possibilities of technique transfer here as well, rounded off the program for this day.
Day 2
The second day was reserved for a smaller group and focused on handling the weapon in extreme situations such as knife defense and weapon protection. Different scenarios and applications were addressed to show that special situations also require special solutions.
Weapon protection is, after all, a sensitive topic in general – in this respect, we can report from our experience with many different special units with which we have trained our programs. One essential maxim applies to all weapon carriers: take the protection of the weapon really seriously.
Three hours of intensive training with a lot of sweat and effort were a great experience for everyone.
